1.1 About EZ-E-Mail
When you register your EZMailBox(tm) address, you join a growing
membership of computer users networked across the nation. As
a member of the EZ-E-Mail Network, you participate in an
organization which centers around the electronic communication
needs of its members.
EZ-E-Mail makes communication among multiple remote locations
simpler, more efficient, and more cost-effective. EZ-E-Mail
uses standard telephone lines to carry electronic mail messages
(E-Mail) between personal computers equipped with the EZMailBox
software as well as other electronic mail services. An E-Mail
message can be correspondence, computer files, worksheets -- any
file stored on your computer system.
EZ-E-Mail is simple and easy to use.
Menu pulldown selections.
There is no need to learn a new editor to compose
E-Mail messages. You can set your favorite text editor
in the EZMailBox Configuration menu selection.
Online help is provided and can be accessed from the main
menu bar. Or you can press [F1] at any time from any point
in the program, and additional online information about
the current selected item will be displayed. To return to
your selected window, press the [Esc] key.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.2 Advantages of EZ-E-Mail over Fax or direct modem connections.
EZ-E-Mail gives the addressee an editable/usable file upon receipt
of the transmission. Fax does not.
EZ-E-Mail can send to multiple addressees with one transmission.
Fax cannot.
EZ-E-Mail is simpler and more convenient to use. Create your
message once and send it. With Fax, you must type the file,
print it, and then use a Fax machine to send it.
EZ-E-Mail uses telephone lines to transmit/receive messages
without any extra inconvenience. Fax requires either a dedicated
telephone line or special equipment.
EZ-E-Mail software is free of charge. In order to have a
direct connection, both users must purchase the compatible
software. In order to send the messages, one user must first
determine that the other user's telephone line is free. This is
usually done by calling the other party to ensure that the
line will be free to call and accept the connection.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.3 Gateway to other mail services.
Currently, EZ-E-Mail serves as a gateway to MCI Mail(sm),
CompuServe(tm), Internet, usenet, and Fidonet. This
gateway service is provided at no additional charge.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.4 EZ-E-Mail is cost-effective.
Subscribers pay only a flat rate, no message unit fees,
and no extra charge for sending the same message to multiple
addressees. The message is sent once to the Central Post
Office (CPO) and forwarded from there to all the addressees.
Connect time is minimized. Subscribers create all their files
and mail messages BEFORE connecting to the CPO. Mail
messages and files are compressed upon completion. They are
then queued for delivery. Only when you click on the Connect
to CPO selection does the dialup start. Therefore, the only
telephone company charge will be for the amount of time required
to send the queued mail.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.5 Encryption Protection
Mail messages and files are encrypted upon exiting from the editor.
Upon receipt, the message or file is decrypted automatically.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.6 Subscription Information and Rates
The first month of EZ-E-Mail service is a trial period and no payment
is due. Thereafter, fees are due and payable in advance by check
or money order either monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or yearly.
A user is not fully registered until payment is received by Shecora
Associates, Inc.
Subscribers will be billed electronically for their mail service.
If a check is returned for any reason by the bank, a surcharge of
$15.00 will be assessed. In addition, until the bank return fee and
the subscription fee are paid and cleared, the user's account will
be frozen. The CPO will accept mail to that account, but will not
allow downloading to the user until the account bill is settled.
Rates
--- Monthly $ 7.00 (US) $ 8.00 (CDN)
--- Quarterly $ 19.00 (US) $ 21.00 (CDN)
--- Semi-annually $ 35.00 (US) $ 38.00 (CDN)
--- Yearly $ 60.00 (US) $ 65.00 (CDN)
__________________________________________________________________________
1.7 Checking Mail
Mail should be checked a minimum of every three days. It is recommended
that mail be checked once a day. Mail pending at the CPO older than
80 hours will be DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE.
If a subscriber knows in advance that he/she will not be available to
pick up mail within the 80-hour limit, he/she should send mail to
"help" stating the start and expiration date for the CPO to hold the
mail. Allow three working days for this request to be processed.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.8 Hardware Requirements
Each subscriber must have an IBM-compatible DOS-based personal computer
and a Hayes-compatible modem. A hard disk is highly recommended.
If you are running EZMailBox in a network configuration, be advised
that networks are not supported in this version and therefore you may
experience problems running multiple sessions of EZMailBox.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.9 Hotline/Technical Support
Any problems, bug reports, or suggestions should be sent to
Shecora Associates, Inc. via the EZ-E-Mail address: "help".
Be advised that occasionally servers will need maintenance performed.
Sundays, starting at 10:00am Eastern time until the maintenance is
completed, has been designated as the time for these maintenance tasks.
During that period, the server will be unavailable.
Telephone Technical Support will be available from Monday through Friday,
from 9:00 am to 11:00 p.m. and from 1:00pm to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time at
603-672-0736.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.10 Distribution of Software
The EMKIT*.ZIP file can be distributed freely on floppy or via BBS accounts.
NOTE: It is not recommended distributing .EXE files as these files are
subject to viral attacks.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.11 U.S. Government Internet Domain Addressing Standard
The EZMailBox software is the gateway for the EZ-E-Mail Service.
Each subscriber must register a unique EZMailBox address. The
EZMailBox address is based on the U.S. Government's Internet
Domain Addressing Standard.
A domain is comprised of a government-defined organizational
identifier (such as sai.com) and may also contain one or more
subdomains. The periods are the delimiters of the subdomains.
The following is an example of the domain addressing standard:
robert@tinsel.30675.sai.com
In this example,
"robert" is in the user field and is a unique user name
for the EZMailBox account tinsel in the EZ-E-Mail
subdomain .30675.sai.com.
"tinsel" is the EZMailBox name. This is equal to your street address
or P.O. Box number.
".30675" indicates a subdomain of the EZ-E-Mail address .sai.com.
This is the same as your city and state.
".sai.com" is the government-defined organizational domain for
EZ-E-Mail. This field is the name of your mail delivery service.
Therefore, tinsel.30675.sai.com is the correct address for the
EZMailBox name tinsel.30675 to receive mail.
Because this standard allows more than one EZMailBox to be named
tinsel, a user can choose a more meaningful name for his/her
EZMailBox account name. In addition, this conformance to the
Internet standard allows users to easily exchange mail with
other electronic mail services.
__________________________________________________________________________
1.12 Limitations of Liability
EZ-E-Mail and EZMailBox shall be provided to you upon the following
terms and conditions:
1. Federal and state law prevents the use of EZ-E-Mail for the
purpose and intent to annoy, threaten, or harass any person, and
said laws further prevent any material which is obscene, lewd,
lascivious, filthy, or indecent. Use of your EZ-E-Mail for these
purposes or any other illegal or prohibited communications,
including copyright or trademark infringement, may result in the
discontinuance of EZ-E-Mail and where appropriate, the institution
of legal action.
2. If any claims are made against EZ-E-Mail or Shecora Associates,
Inc. relating to or arising out of any materials sent by you,
you hereby agree to indemnify and hold EZ-E-Mail and Shecora
Associates, Inc. harmless against any damages or expenses incurred
by them in defending such an action. EZ-E-Mail and Shecora
Associates, Inc. shall not be liable in any event for any special,
indirect, or consequential damages suffered by a service user
of EZ-E-Mail or a third party, including but not limited to any
loss of profits, resulting from any act or inaction by EZ-E-Mail
or Shecora Associates, Inc., regardless of whether they had any
actual or constructive knowledge of said damages or actions.
3. Shecora Associates, Inc. may revise the prices, specifications,
or any other aspect of EZ-E-Mail without prior notice to you.
If you are dissatisfied with any of said charges, you may
discontinue EZ-E-Mail by notifying Shecora Associates, Inc.
Section 2
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
__________________________________________________________________________
The EMINSTAL executable file will step you through the entire
installation procedure. If for any reason you are unable to
complete the installation successfully, contact EZ-E-Mail
Technical Support.
The EZMailBox registration form asks for the following information:
name, residential or business mailing address, domain code, telephone
number, user name, EZMailBox name, and whether you choose to receive mail
advertisements.
__________________________________________________________________________
2.1 Getting Started with EZ-E-Mail
If you are installing EZMailBox from an original floppy or a copy
(both of which should be write protected) of the original, you
will have three files on the disk:
READ.ME, an ASCII text file
EMKIT103.EXE, the executable file
EMKIT103.ZIP, the archived file
To install EZMailBox software from the floppy drive (generally
the A: drive), follow these steps:
1. Create a temporary directory on your hard disk.
2. Change your current drive to C:
3. Change your current directory to the temporary one
just created.
4. Run the EMKIT103 executable or zip file from the temporary
directory.
Example:
mkdir \temp
C: (Your current drive is now the "C" drive)
cd \temp
A:EMKIT103 or PKUNZIP EMKIT103
The EMKIT103 executable file will unpack the following files to
the current directory (in this example, the current directory
is \temp):
EMINSTAL.EXE
READ.ME
EZHELP.HLP
PED.EXE-an ASCII text editor
PED.DOC-documentation for the PED editor
Now you are ready to complete the installation. At the prompt,
type EMINSTAL. If you are using a monochrome monitor and find the
letters difficult to see, start over and type EMINSTAL /m. The
software will prompt you through the installation and will ask
for the following information:
1. Enter the EZ-E-Mail home directory name.
You must include the full path name, including the
drive. The Tiny Word editor will be placed in the
designated directory in \bin\ped
Example: C:\ezemail
Editor location:
Example: C:\ezemail\bin\ped
2. A window and selection box now appears. You are
asked to pick one of the directories in which to install
the EZMBOX.BAT file. If you are not sure where to install
the .BAT file, the recommended directory is C:\.
Example: C:\
It is recommended that \ezemail be used as the preferred
directory name for the installation of the EZMailBox software.
The install program will then create the working directory
for EZ-E-Mail.
Example: C:\ezemail\user
You start up EZMailBox by typing "ezmbox". There is a viral scan
program included in the software. There is a 20% chance of it
being invoked upon startup. If the viral check has been invoked,
the initial startup will take longer while it checks the program.
For each user you add, the software will create a user directory
under the c:\ezemail\user directory.
You are now ready to register your EZMailBox account.
Until your EZMailBox account is registered, the program will display the
READ.ME file each time you start up ezmbox. Typing "q" will quit you
out of this file and pop up a window which will ask you if you want to
register.
If you choose "N" here, you will still proceed and be asked your user
name. This is the name you will use to receive mail. Use your first name,
last name, or any combination you wish. Do not use spaces between your
first and last name. However, you will not be able to create or send mail
until you register.
You will then be asked if you are a new user. If you choose "N",
you will exit from the program.
If you choose "Y" at this point, you will go to the User Setup up
window. After completing the requested information in this window,
you can then proceed to register your EZMailBox account.
If you choose "Y", you will immediately go to the registration form.
Complete this form. (See the READ.ME file for instructions or press
[F1] for additional help on any part of this form.)
Once you have completed the registration form, press [F10] to save it.
Then choose the Connect to CPO option in the Mail menu selection to
activate your registration. The CPO will immediately send back an
acknowledgment and a confirmation of your EZMailBox account name.

him/herself as a user will be
automatically designated the
Postmaster.
The Postmaster will receive
mail:
1. if the mail is addressed to
the Postmaster at that EZMailBox
address
OR
2. if mail is sent to an unknown
user at that EZMailBox address,
the mail will be diverted to
the Postmaster.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.4.2 Create Alias File
Users create their distribution lists within the mail program.
When you select this option, you will be asked to select an
8-character name. Once that is selected, you will be in edit
mode and can then create your alias distribution list.
When you finish, save the file and exit the editor.
The software will append the extension denoting alias
files (.als) and save the alias file to your user directory.
How to setup an alias file:
When you choose Create Alias File from the Configure
pulldown menu, your designated editor will be invoked.
You can now create your individual distribution lists.
List each addressee on a separate line. You may add
comments to each line by preceding each new comment with
the pound (#) sign.
Example: bob@tinsel.37654.sai.com # Robert Gray-Midwest Rep
When you save and exit from your editor, your file will
automatically be created with the extension of .als.
Example: members.als
How to send mail to all addressees in an alias file:
When you invoke the Create Mail option, use the
asterisk (*) and file name at the TO: prompt.
Example:
To: *members
__________________________________________________________________________
3.4.3 User Setup
There are three fields in this menu box.
Editor: Enter any true text editor of your
choice. (A true text editor creates
an output file that is EXACTLY the
same as the input file.) When you
start up the Create Message option,
this will be your editor.
NOTE: Be aware that editors that are
*.COM files may cause the system to
hang. This problem does not occur
with *.EXE files. PED.EXE, an ASCII
text editor, has been included with
the EZMailBox software for your
convenience. PED can be used as your
designated text editor.
User Full Name: Enter the full name of the user.
Enable User Password: The default is "N". If you
wish to use password access,
select "Y". You will then be
asked to enter and verify a
password. Enter your password.
It will not appear in the bar.
You can use any combination of
uppercase and lowercase letters,
and/or numbers. Use only
printable characters (no control
characters).
The Enable User Password field can
be changed at any time via the
Change User Password selection.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.4.4 Change User Password
There are two fields in this menu box.
New Password: Enter your new password. It will not
appear in the bar. It must be a minimum
of 6 characters. You can use any
combination of uppercase and lowercase
letters, and/or numbers. Use only
printable characters (no control
characters).
Verify: After entering the new password, you
will be asked to type it again as a
verification. It will not appear in the
bar. If you mistype the password, you
will default back to the New Password
field and can start again.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.4.5 Registration
This is the form you use to register your EZMailBox
address. The information required here includes:
Your name
Company name, if applicable
Your (or your company's) mailing address
EZMailBox subdomain name (the 5-digit U.S.Zip Code or
the 6-character Canadian Postal code, minus the space).
For information on customized subdomains, which can
reflect your business or organization, contact
Customer Service.
Home phone
Business phone
Any falsification of information in these fields will be
cause for immediate discontinuance of EZ-E-Mail service.
The default for receiving mail advertisements is "N". If
you wish to receive unsolicited mail advertisements,
select "Y".
In addition, the program asks for the password for the
EZMailBox name you are registering. As with the user
password, the minimum number of characters is 6. They
can be any combination of uppercase and lowercase letters,
and/or numbers. Use only printable characters (no
control characters).
If you need to change the EZMailBox password for any reason,
select the Change EZMailBox Password option. As soon as
you complete the change, the software will call the CPO.
The CPO will send back an acknowledgment that it has received
the change. NOTE- Doing a full backup after changing
the EZMailBox password is highly recommended.
Now you will be asked to enter your three choices
for your EZMailBox name. Choose names with a
minimum of 3 characters and a maximum of 10.
Currently, the default for the CPO is "lemuria". As more
CPOs are added to the EZ-E-Mail network, the name in this
field may change.
The last field to complete is the Commercial Mail option.
The default is "N". If you choose to receive commercial
mail (such as advertisements), select "Y".
Once you have completed this form, press [F10] to save it.
Pressing the [Esc] key quits the field and returns you to the
menu selection bar. No information is saved.
Fill in the information required in the System Configure
option before proceding.
To complete the registration of your EZMailBox address,
select Connect to CPO from the Mail menu. The software
will automatically register your EZMailBox address. The
CPO will instantly send back an acknowledgment of your
registration and a confirmation of your EZMailBox name.
As soon as you have completed registration, you can start
to create and send mail. There is no need to exit the
program and restart.
NOTE:
It is recommended that you do a backup of the node file
as soon as you have completed registration. Choose the
Backup Node File selection under the File menu option.
********************************************************
WARNING
A recovery fee of $50.00 will be assessed if the node.dat
file is lost and the user has not made a backup copy.
*********************************************************
Once you have registered your EZMailBox address, the
option "Registration" will appear in white letters on
color monitors and in reverse video on monochrome
monitors. Registration will no longer be a selectable option.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.4.6 Change EZMailBox Password
If you need to change the EZMailBox password for any reason,
select the Change EZMailBox Password option. As soon as
you complete the change, the software will call the CPO.
The CPO will send back an acknowledgment that it has received
the change.
NOTE:
After changing the EZMailBox password, it is highly
recommended doing a backup of the node.dat file.
To accomplish this, choose the Backup Node File option
under the File menu selection.
New Password: Enter your new password. It will not
appear in the bar. It must be a minimum
of 6 characters. You can use any
combination of uppercase and lowercase
letters, and/or numbers. Use only
printable characters (no control
characters).
Verify: After entering the new password, you
will be asked to type it again as a
verification. It will not appear in the
bar. If you mistype the password, you
will default back to the New Password
field and can start again.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.5 Mail
__________________________________________________________________________
3.5.1 Create Message
When the user clicks on this option, a window will pop up
with the word "TO:" in the upper left hand corner. Type
the name of the addressee or alias file name. The software
will continue to prompt you with the "TO:" until you press
enter on an empty line. You will now be at the "Subject:"
prompt. Add the subject you wish and press enter. The
editor you had designated in the System Configuration window
will now be invoked. When the editor is invoked to create mail
messages, the software creates a temporary file. You can now
create your message. When you exit from your editor, the
software compresses and encrypts the message. A popup window
will now appear and asks if you want to queue the message
for transmission. If you choose "Y" the message is now
queued to be sent. If you choose "N", the message is aborted.
When you are ready to send all your messages, select the
Connect to CPO option.
Until you register the EZMailBox address this field will
be disabled and appears in white on color monitors and
in reverse video on monochrome monitors.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.5.2 Send File
When you have a file ready to send, click on the Send File
option. A window will pop up and there will be a
"File to send:" prompt in the upper left hand corner. You
must type in the full path of the file
(i.e. c:\junk\stuff\sales).
Press enter and the next prompt is "TO:". Type in the
addressee here and press enter. The subject line is now
displayed. When you press enter again, your editor will
be invoked and you can add a message to the file being
transferred. Once you exit from the editor the file will be
compressed, encrypted, and queued for sending.
When a file is received by the user, the software files it
in a special directory called \ezemail\user\"user name"\files.
A system message is prepended to the mail message indicating
the exact location of the file you received.
For new EZMailBox addresses, this field will remain disabled
until subscription payment is received at the CPO.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.5.3 Open Mail Box
Clicking on this option pops up a window which displays
all messages held in the inbox.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.5.4 Connect to CPO
Clicking on this option sends all queued mail to the CPO
for delivery and downloads all mail waiting at the CPO.
__________________________________________________________________________
3.5.5 Open Folder
When the user clicks on this option, a window will pop up
which asks for the name of the folder you wish to open.
If the folder does not exist, you will receive a message
to that effect.
A folder can only be created within the Create Message
option.
If a user presses [Esc] while in any of the folder directories,
any messages marked for deletion will not be deleted.

3.6.4 Your EZMailBox Address
The EZMailBox software is the gateway for the EZ-E-Mail
Service. Each subscriber must register a unique EZMailBox
address. The EZMailBox address is based on the U.S.
Government's Internet Domain Addressing Standard.
This is equal to your street
address or P.O.
